Why Should You Meal Prep?
Meal prep is a great way to help you stick with your diet and achieve your goals. Studies have shown that people who cook their own meals at home the majority of the week consume less calories, sugar, and fat than those who eat out regularly.
When preparing your meals, portion out your food to make sure you are getting enough of the macro nutrients your body needs. For example choose 3-5 ounces of protein like beef, fish, chicken, or eggs (you can purchase a food scale from Amazon for as little as $10); ½ cup-1 cup of complex carbohydrates like brown rice, sweet potatoes, whole grains, or vegetables; and ½-1 tablespoon of healthy fats like olive oil, sunflower oil, avocados, seeds, or nuts.
What are the benefits of meal prep?
Meal prep saves time: Many of us lead busy lives so saving time each week means more time to do the things you enjoy. When you take a few hours each weekend to plan and prepare your meals, it makes your life easier and less stressful because your meals are ready to go for the week.
Meal prep saves money: By planning out your meals, you know exactly what ingredients you need to buy and when. This leaves less room for temptation when it comes to buying food on impulse.
Meal prep helps you eat healthier
As mentioned earlier, by planning out your meals, there is less chance you will impulse shop. Have you ever went grocery shopping without a list or at least an idea of what you needed? Without a plan in place for eating meals, it is more likely you will wait until you are ravishing and will choose food that is not only convenient, but unhealthy.
